So McPhee is the only Bomber... doesn't surprise me that Lloydy didn't make it, hopefully he can stil finish on more goals than Gherig at the end of everything. But Hird? And Riccuito is skipper? Pfft.

Whaatta game!! Melbourne lost their brains in the last 5 or so minutes, so experience just got us over the line. When Hird took that mark right infront of us, the whole bay went up and started screaming I don't even remember hearing the siren!!

Solly was awesome again, the look on his face when he got that free at the end was priceless! JJ creamed all his opponents Fletch and Wellman were awesome again, why the hell is Welly retiring? His rebounding yesterday was like a return to 2000 or something. Almost! Lloydy kicked this ripper from the centre square!

Hird is a freak or superman or something. Took this massive bump in the first quarter, was aparently suffering poor vision for the rest of game. Got two goals. Amazing!

JIMMY!!

Almost cost ourselves in the 3rd quarter, held goaless and all the hard work disappeared. But enter Hille! That goal from the boundary!!!

Port didn't choke today, so Geelong next week. Kingsley on report, Mooney may be sighted and Ablett with an ankle injury. Interesting.

Look at the centre line!! hee! Good to see Jobe cementing a spot! Cupido?! huh? Still don't think there's a spot in the side for both Cupes and NLM.

Rumour going round at the moment is that Rioli has done his hammy again and won't play tomorrow, funny that seeing that he seemed to train fine yesterday. Big blow if right though.

September Fever! Can't wait till Saturday!!

Finals Fever!! [29 Aug 2004|08:03pm]
[ mood | restless ]

FINAAAAAAALS!!!

What a crap match! But it doesn't matter, cos we're there. In September! Joey got a great send off and Lloydy's race for the Coleman put spark into the game!

Saturday September 4
First Elimination Final, Melbourne v Essendon at the MCG, 2.30pm

Lloydy missed the Coleman by one! Had everyone on edge.  It was crazy during the fourth quarter, every surge foward the boys were looking for him.Sparked the crowd, hearing the "Lloydy" chant ring around was great.

And Joey! In his little car! I really thought I wouldn't cry, but then they had that song and the highlights package and the tears just rolled on down! I miss the number 24 already.

Bendigo 13.9 (87) v Tasmania 16.10 (106).

Goalkickers: Guy Campbell 4, Ted Richards 2, Peter Summers, Kepler Bradley, Aaron Henneman, Luke Hawkins, Jay Nash, Kain Robins, Darren Walsh.

Best players: Doering, Alvey, Campbell, Richards, Wilson, Robins, Bowen

First final ever, did pretty well, just getting steamrolled in the last quarter. More than steamrolled, but still a good effort!

Freo lost, so if we don't get thumped by the Doggies tomorrow, we made the finals! *fingers crossed for a joey farewell!!*

"Sean leaves us having joined the club from Adelaide in 1996. He leaves with a Premiership and having been a vice-captain of the club. He has been a wonderful defender whose versatility and courage have been a hallmark of the way he played his football.

"Joe has been a part of the fabric of this football club for more than 15 years and a midfield minus Misiti will have a very different look to it. He has always had an uncanny knack of finding the football and Essendon fans will cherish images of him shuffling from one end of the ground to the other.

Aargh tomorrow's going to be sad! Welly and Joey (SMOKIN') both saying there farewells. Sad that Joey can't get a proper farewell though, one last shuffle, but a lap of honour before the game for him (and little Josh!!) and Welly getting chaired off... the cameras a must! Prepare for tears!

Holding on by a thread [22 Aug 2004|02:09pm]
[ mood | indifferent ]

The boys went down last night to the Swans, it was such a frustrating game to watch. Particulary the first quarter. Had so many opportunities, but just couldn't make anything of them. First quarter got worse when Smokey went down with a Hammy/Groin injury, which could possibly mean the end of his super season.

With McPhee gone, Bolts went to look after Hall, he didn't look comfortable for one bit. I think at one stage in the game we had Woosha playing on Goodes, giving off a huge amount of height he beat him in a few contests!

McVeigh played well now he's finally been moved up into the midfield, his runnin and tackling was excellent. Solly was hard again, and Hirdy tried his guts out all night. Stants following up from his rising star nod (FINALLY!) kept running. Jobe did some good stuff in the first quarter, it's great to see the boys have confidence in actually kicking to him as well. And Laycock slotted a fab goal from right on the boundry, did some good stuff in the ruck too.

At quarter time Sheeds went off at someone, the sunday footy show said it was the emergency ump. Looks like a please explain is heading his way.

Dunno who I'm meant to go for in the Derby today, but it's good that the Dogs trashed the Roos last night.

Not only did we beat Collingwood, in the wet, to cling onto whatever finals hope we have left, but everyone stood up. Hirdy was his usual freako self, his goal in the second quarter was ace. And the kids were awesome!

Ricky and Jobe found something special, Stants was excellent and Chook was impressive.

Solly and McPhee were brilliant. Some of their tackles, wow!

Next week is massive, if we can come out firing again... can't wait!!!

Bitter sounding: The Word From Hird.

With the topsy turvy season, it'll be a completely different story on friday night against the maggies. Well at least if it doesnt rain anyway.

Ch. 10 reported that Lloydy will play this week as well, to that, I laugh and will believe when i see him run through the banner

And yay! Welshy icon, thanks to skeeta

From footy high to footy low [07 Aug 2004|11:51pm]
[ mood | cold ]

As soon as the rain started falling i had a bad feeling about the game. And I was right. There doesn't seem to be a change in game plan from dry to wet weather. Overposessed it, handballing when they could've kicked it. After last week, i thought everything had turned around, but guess not. And after North decide to turn on the shinboner spirit, coming back from some unthinkable margin, we got booted out of the eight.

We got screwed by the umps, but so did Carlton and just about everyone (bar the usual) seemed to play pretty poorly. Even Hird, who was in the best, seemed off. Wearing his little rib protector he looked like he wanted to pick a fight with everybody early on. And Cupido needs a kick up the arse, he seriously did one good thing, kicking that super goal, and then nothing. for the rest of the game. Laycock was good, took a good pack mark, and got an immature chuckle about some name variations for him. hee.

Lloydy came off second best in a contest and hurt his shoulder, no idea whats wrong with him. 3AW had him gone for the rest of teh season, where as Doc Larkins says 1 week and the club is saying an outside chance for the pies. Woosha bruised his knee and his being monitored. :(

Good news is that Bendigo won today!! YAY!! And Mercs and Licha were listed among the best, good news for Mercs that's a few good games in a row. Apparently Lovett booted 4 awesome goals and Jobe was good as a key foward.

Ick. I didn't mean to whinge so much!

Hird has to play this week and Laycock gets a run. Cupes is still in, after doing shit all last week, well he kicked 2(?) goals, but other than that nothing. Sad that Teddy gets shown the door again and if Alvey doesn't do something extra special on Saturday, he'll be taking a trip down Bendigo way himself.

CUPES?! So one goal and a hissy fit is enough to warrant selection? And Alvey? The Bendigo team was pathetic last w/e hard to see how anyone could get a call up. Poor Rama, named as an emergency though, a week in the 2's could be good still.

Fletch is back, for his first game against Port in, ah I dunno how many games!! Hudson said today that Hirdy won't play, please don't be true!

[ mood | bitchy ]

After last night I don't think I'll ever go to a match again with Chris, who has now convinced me that she must be the biggest bandwagon supporter ever, with her beanie and other paraphernalia nice and new, straight out of the packaging and everytime the Saints got a goal, waving her fist in my face and screaming at the top of her lungs.

While the game was probably over at quarter time and looked like being a blow out, the boys managed to show at least something in the second half, got the margin back to 23 points (i think) before just running out of legs. Lloydy was brilliant, with next to no ball supply, was probably unlucky not to get 7 goals. Some of the young kids showed something, like Kepler. McPhee tried hard all night, but we lost something when he had to go back on Gherig.

What really shits me though wasn't the feral Saints supporters who were more full of themselves than ever, but the Essendon so called supporters. When something goes wrong they just turn and bag the crap out of one of their own, Bolton I think was on the recieving end of most of their abuse last night. So what, he had a crap night, but it doesn't help anyone to give him crap from over the fence anytime he went anywhere near the ball, he's not fucking superman. Other players like the Johnsons, McPhee and even Lloydy copped it too, and when you say anything back to these idiots, they churn out the age old response, I'm a member, and I'm having my say. Being a member, is about supporting, not degrading your team if you have something to say there are better avenues to take. </rant>

Return of the King?? [22 Jul 2004|09:17pm]

Bomber skipper James Hird has been named in the Essendon team to take on St Kilda tomorrow night. Hird returns after one week on the sidelines with a broken rib.

Hope he plays, then I can sing the super freaky song all night but I'll believe it when I see it!!!

Essendon team:
B: McVeigh, Fletcher, Welsh
HB: Richards, Solomon, Bolton
C: Stanton, Misiti, Peverill
HF: Murphy, McPhee, Hird
F: Hille, Lloyd, Lovett-Murray
R: Allan, J. Johnson, M. Johnson
Inter: Bradley, Bullen, Haynes, Ramanauskas
Emer: Winderlich, Alvey, Mercuri

In: James Hird
Out: Ricky Dyson (omitted)

Still Sheedy's axe remains hung on his lounge room wall, or wherever he keeps it.

Hirdy can't take a trick, in his 200th injured again. Cracked ribs and internal bleeding. Ick. 3-6 weeks apparently. The courage he showed after he went down though was amazing, got up and went to the contest again, but just couldn't run, couldn't breathe. The boys did it for him today! Bolts was a late withdrawal as well, Hamstring - and Scotty did his during the match. So we'll still be really undermanned next week.

Only highlight of the first half was the boys running out onto the ground. The banner and Hird, and his kids. Awww.
James and the Little HirdsCollapse )

The rest of the half was rubbish. Complete crap. Fumbled, couldn't keep posession and looked tired, but just generally the Tigers were more determined then us. Although in the second quarter there was some signs of spirit.

I didn't expect the performance after half time. Seven straight goals in the third quarter and then another ten in the last. No FADEOUT!! YAY! Winners by 78 points after an 82 point turn around from half time!

Lloydy got 9 stepping up without Jim, McPhee (after starting terribly) turned himself around and was brilliant. Rama and MJ showed some good form again and Teddy, actually getting game time, was great! Showed confidence bustin through a few packs. Even Hille turned his fortunes around a bit.

Enjoyed some verbal battles with a few of the Tiger ferals fans . What whingers!
